JANELLE CARMICHAEL, MA, LSCC
Coach, Administrative Partner
My name is Janelle and I specialize in working with people who are motivated to find a path that fits who they are now. Whether you landed in where you are by happenstance or went to school for this career path, things change. It's okay to acknowledge that it might not be for you anymore. The money might be great, but if you find yourself saying, "I don't want to stay, but if I leave then what?"... You're in the right place.
How do you even begin a shift like that?
Starting coaching looks like a decision - a decision that "you're over this shit" and are open to something different. The rest is talking like the actual human you are, with me, another human, who actually cares about what's specific to you. There's no competition, ratings, deadlines (unless you make them), weird team dynamics, or managers that see you as a productivity horse.
I'm not here to tell you how to live your life. This is your time.
Across my roles in collegiate athletic coaching, non-profit administration, or in mental health practice leadership, the part I loved most was drawing out the unique traits, hopes, and things people felt drawn toward doing. My philosophy has always been that when the people are the priority, their best comes along with them. Because of this, my ideal client is someone who values connection and wants a partner in the process of changing directions toward a life that fits who they are now.
Together, we talk through where you are, who you are (a mix of conversation, assessments, and workbook), where you want to go and identify/work through the barriers in between. I love laughing, being real - like a real person who’s gone through hard stuff too - and getting down to what matters to you.
My coaching style is playfully direct, humor-infused, intentionally present, and logic/pattern driven. I'm observant, live to ask questions, and genuinely want to see you (and people in general) find what fits you.
Nope. Despite what some marketing may say, coaching and counseling can overlap in some areas like motivational interviewing/goal setting/forward thinking, but their trainings, requirements, and functions are different!
Coaching may be the best option for you if you're stuck, not sure what's next, or wanting to pivot to something that fits who you are: you're ready to get moving!
Counseling may be the best option for you if you're looking to work through traumas (family or historical), address relationship challenges, or have someone to walk through the "why's" of life. There's extensive training/education that goes into a provider being equipped to help people through these areas.
If you're still not sure, I'm happy to do a consult call to sift through whether coaching or counseling might serve you best at this time.
Here's a quick overview/breakdown of the two:
Coaching styles and niches are unique to the coach. Just like your preferences are unique to you! When looking for a coach, the first impressions you have may feel judgmental, but they're not! It's information to pay attention to:
Is the coach "your kind of people"?
How do you connect with what you're reading?
How do you fit with their style?
How do their modalities/rates work for your life/schedule?
Please do take these points to heart when deciding if we're a good fit. This coaching partnership process is your first step in finding what fits you!
Most coaching programs will require a set of sessions or package purchases. I don't roll that way - I believe you know what you need, especially when it comes to personal development and answer finding. We'll keep on going until you have what you're looking for.
